Auction House: What not to do!

World of Warcraft economy doesn’t work like that of the real world. Though it’s very common to assume that it does, because of the similarities of buying low and selling high. It’s actually a bit more convenient for merchants.

One of the most common mistakes that people do is assume that real world economy and WoW economy is the same, so they try to treat the Auction House, like they would if they wanted to sell something in real life.

This happens because most people assume that if their prices are lower, it means that their item will automatically get more bids or sell faster. It doesn’t work that way! There are only a couple of important factors in making a good Auction House killing instead of “Killing” the Auction house:

* The item

* Is it morning or afternoon? Is the server crowded at this time or not?

* How good your server is

Pricing your item comes last in priority, it’s not a question of how low you go but how balanced your price is. They key to selling your item is knowing how to balance so that you make a good profit, and still actually sell your item.

It’s very annoying for merchanters when they go to the Auction House and see someone who doesn’t know what they’re doing, selling an item for such a low price it’s actually an insult to the item itself.

What I used to do when this happened was to sell my items for a bit lower than my usual price, but I realized I’m ripping myself off too. So what I do now is to buy out their items at the low price they are selling for and then put it up in my normal price range, and guess what? They sell!

Lowering your price doesn’t actually make a difference, the only thing people care about is that it’s along the normal price range and not too unreasonably high. Don’t kill your profits, and don’t kill the market.

So wisen up, don’t sell yourself short. Take advantage of the market, and reap the gold rewards!
