Sometimes when meteorites strike the earth, they generate so much heat and pressure that some diamonds can be formed. Diamonds so formed are often small and not transparent. They are believed to have materialized upon impact out of graphite that is contained in the meteorite. Not very good samples for a jeweler.
The ages of some diamonds can be as much as 2 or 3 billion years. It is possible to tell this by dating some mineral impurities that could have been trapped within the diamonds as they are brought to the surface of the earth. But who thinks these things when they wear the stones on their fingers? Who can? You are so caught up in its beauty!
