Snoring Cure - Perhaps an End to an Elusive Problem

People who are professionals in the community of sleep disorders all experience the same thing. They find that the public at large is fascinated with what they do. This interest isn’t spawned by an overall Intrigue with the science of sleep but, instead, almost everyone is either personally bothered by some aspect of snoring or knows somebody who is. These people want to find a snoring cure and when they learn that they are in the company of a sleep professional, they want to hear all about the latest developments.

Why is finding a snoring cure so important?

A recent scientific article reported at the American Academy of Sleep Medicine reported that the bed-mate to a snorer suffers poor quality sleep. This may sound obvious. However, bed-mates to snorers constantly attempt to “beat the system”. They will tell you that they go to bed earlier than their partner so that they can fall asleep before the snoring begins. This may happen but when the snorer arrives in bed, falls asleep and starts snoring, it partially arouses the bed mate as well as the snorer him/herself.

As it turns out, each stage of sleep plays a specific role in generating hormones that rejuvenate our bodies. Now for the urgency of finding a snoring cure. Snoring disrupts the brain’s ability to cycle through all of the stages of sleep. It not only continuously arouses the snorer, but also anybody who is sleeping with or within earshot of the snorer. Poor sleep results in daytime fatigue, irritability, memory loss, and a host of other conditions that demand a snoring cure.

Attempts at a snoring cure.

There have been many attempts to develop a snoring cure. People have developed chin straps, falsely believing that if the mouth is closed snoring is prevented. Clips have been used to close off the nose with the mistaken theory that you can’t snore through the mouth. A tennis ball sewn into the back of a pajama top is supposed to prevent the snorer from sleeping on his back (the sleeping position most prone to snoring). They snore anyway. Surgical reduction or elimination of some of the soft tissues in the back of the throat that are responsible for snoring have not been shown to be effective over the long term.

The one approach to a snoring cure that is effective is through CPAP therapy which is the gold standard in the amelioration of obstructive sleep apnea. Unfortunately, the CPAP is seen as being uncomfortable, unsightly, and cumbersome to the majority of those who try it. Many people see the cure as being worse than the disease.

A very viable approach to a snoring cure!

There has been a great deal of excitement in the snoring community in recent years over oral appliance therapy. Anti-Snoring Mouthpieces have been demonstrated to be very effective as a snoring cure. The Anti-Snoring Mouthpiece is fit to the upper and lower teeth and adjusts the lower jaw (mandible) to sit in a forward position during sleep. When the lower jaw is pulled forward even the tiniest amount, it acts to open up the airway and with the airway more open, snoring is either significantly reduced or eliminated entirely. The Anti-Snoring Mouthpiece, by definition, becomes a snoring cure.
