Diet pills only contain natural ingredients that help you live longer and alcohol to make them more palatable. One thing’s for sure, never take diet pills as a substitute for cutting calories without the doctor’s recommendation but do follow some simple but important steps when taking diet pills. One first word of warning; whether its prescription or an over-the-counter diet pill, the dangers are the same as with other similar drugs which control the brain to reduce appetite and these can include chest pains, hair loss, fever, depression, and even impotence.

These pills are not meant to be taken with food or mixed into drinks, whether crushed or not, but do make sure that you have a full glass of water to take them with. However, these pills make you urinate more frequently and while this is quite natural it does mean that you will become dehydrated if you do not have at least eight glasses of water throughout the day to counteract this.

It may seem unnecessary to say but only take the recommended dosage because taking more than required will not help you lose weight but increase the risk of side effects. Whilst you are taking these pills, regular checks of your heart rate is important as it should be on or below eight six beats per minute but if it rises to over 90, which you will know because you are keeping a check then you should cease taking the weight loss pills.

It is important to follow the instructions that come with the pills but equally to listen to what your dietician says and follow your diet plan as they probably won’t work as expected. Diet pills containing phenylpropanolamine, an appetite suppressant, can only be used for a very short period as they may increase the chance of a stroke but some studies at put the use to be limited to under a month so a doctor’s guidance is necessary here.

For people considering this course of action, diet pills can be obtained over the counter or on prescription. The problem is that over the counter pills are not regulated like those prescribed and monitored by the FDA and can only be advertised using a strict code of practice.

Even prescribed pills can cause unpleasant side effects such as the popular Xenical for instance that can give the user erratic oily fecal discharges and diarrhea as well. Rather than take a pill, your dietician would of course prefer you decide to start a low fat diet as the pills available over the counter are not regulated even though they are a foodstuff.

Beware that these diet pills are not Federal authority tested and may cause serious side effects up to and including death; aside from a dietician, local pharmacists can also help in determining the pills that are safe and not for each person’s case. The medical history of your family will be a good guide as to whether or not these pills are suitable and incidents of mental illness, heart and blood pressure problems, prostrate and thyroid conditions, stroke or even seizures should not use them, even people taking cold remedies.

One very important time not to take diet pills is when you are pregnant or you are trying for a baby. Diet pills containing the food coloring tartrazine and sulfites should also be avoided if you are less than 18 years of age or over 60 and for those who use over the counter stimulants to replace normal physical exercise. Now you have more facts, you can decide if diet pills are really what you want.
