Thinking about Pregnancy Photography?

Each pregnancy is unique and special, and each one will eventually be over, leaving nothing behind but memories. This incredible transformation of our bodies is something that’s hard to recall, once baby is here and the daily routine sets back in. That’s why pregnancy photography is an excellent idea for anyone interested in capturing more than just a memory.

Pregnancy photography is an incredible opportunity, allowing use to capture our bodies in this magical moment in time. When we’re pregnant, we’re stronger, yet more vulnerable than ever before. Imagine having visible proof of this period of your life on film to look at in the future.

We also have a bond with our babies that happens long before they’re born. You can see that bond in photos taken while you were pregnant. You deserve to capture that beauty to look at in the years to come. Here are a few tips to help you with taking beautiful images of this special time in your life.

1. First, decide how you want the photos taken – will you take them on your own, with your partner, or with any other children you have. Be sure to discuss the matter with anyone you want to have in your photos, so they understand what you want out of them. Discuss your photos with your photographer, as well.

2. Choose whether you’ll be taking fully clothed pictures or whether you’ll have full or partial nudity. Much of the time, women choose to show a little more for photographs of their pregnancies because clothing can hide all the magical changes their bodies go through. However, you’ll want to make sure that both you and your photographer are comfortable with nudity if you want it in your photos.

3. You should schedule your photo shoot later in the pregnancy, since the growth of your belly might not be apparent early – just don’t run the risk of being short of time! Take into account the fact that when you’re further along, you may need to take breaks during the shoot.

4. Make sure you have a photographer you’re comfortable with and who understands what you want. Your photographer should be professional and experienced in pregnancy photography. Someone like this will know how to take photos that capture this unique moment in your life.

5. Be sure you remember that your belly is the important part of these images, and that you avoid any distracting accessories or clothing. Semi or fully nude photos will require you to remove elasticized clothes about two hours before the shoot to avoid red marks on your body.

If you’ll stay clothed in your photos, pick clothing that accentuates your belly and breasts instead of hiding them. Don’t put anything shiny on your skin, and consider having a manicure and light makeup.

6. Consider including baby items in the photos, like shoes, toys, or a family piece that you’re planning to give to your child. These will add a special charm to the images and will reinforce the visible bond between mother and child.
