Homeschooling is not exactly an easy decision for some families. Please do not get discouraged on your search to learn more about how to home school, and what you’ll need to do. You may be surprised to learn that teaching your children is easier than you thought! Finding your own best home school resource, either online or off will help immensely.

Initially you will want to check your local school’s requirements. You can start by calling your local board of education. You’ll need to contact the superintendent to see what kind of paperwork they require. In our state of Ohio, we need to send a letter to the superintendent that requests our children be excused for each school year, and provide them with an outline of our curriculum. We then receive a letter back stating that our boys are excused, which goes into our home safe.

You’ll need to know if there are any other requirements that need met. For example, you may need to name and register your homeschool with the local board of education. Your state will have it’s own laws that govern specifics related to homeschooling, and the best place to start is with the superintendent.

Local home school groups are another fabulous place to gain much needed information. You may find that your local homeschooling group is your best home school resource on the planet! Not only will you gain very important information from a local home school group, you will begin to get acquainted with other homeschooling parents in your area. Many of whom will be much more experienced than you.

If you are worried about “socialization” you won’t for long when you find a good local homeschool group. You just may find that it’s the best home school resource on the planet! Not only to they help where you need it, they are an invaluable resource for FREE activities, classes and trips to the Zoo even. I highly recommend finding a homeschool group to hang out with in your area.

You will find veteran tips, tricks, free stuff, and more from just browsing other people’s home school blogs. They are an awesome place to socialize online, and will help you learn, grow, and you can contribute your own findings by using the comment areas on blogs that you like. Your children will be very happy to benefit from all that you learn.
